On June 6, Canon announced that it has resolved its patent-infringement suit against UniNet and UI Supplies, a UniNet subsidiary and distributor. This lawsuit, filed by Canon in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia last September, claimed that the defendants infringed U.S. patent number 7,647,012 (the ‘012 patent) by selling third-party toner bottle for monochrome and color imageRUNNER and imageRUNNER ADVANCE copiers/MFPs. UniNet’s settlement with Canon is surprising given that until now it appeared the firm would default. (For our complete coverage of the case, see Canon v. Color Imaging et al. ).
