HP to Lay Off 27,000, but CEO “Cautiously Optimistic” about Q2 Results

During Hewlett-Packard’s second-quarter earnings call, President and CEO Meg Whitman told investors and analysts that the firm expects to shed some 27,000 jobs by the end of 2014. While she acknowledged that the layoffs will have an adverse impact on employees, Ms. Whitman insisted HP’s ongoing restructuring is “absolutely critical for the long-term health of the company.”
